FREE PUBLIC LECTURES
The Early Modern Parish Church project is holding a series of public lectures in September which coincide with Oxford Open Doors 2009 which is part of the national heritage days scheme run by English Heritage. The series of papers from experts on ecclesiastical history and church conservation will address a very broad range of topics and approaches and people are encourged to drop in to St Michael at the Northgate, Cornmarket Street, Oxford on a Wednesday evening in September or on the weekend of 12-13th. The Saxon tower will be open to visitors. No booking is necessary. Please see the timetable for dates and times.
JOURNEY DOWN THE OMO RIVER
The Omo River in south-western Ethiopia, site of the AHRC-funded research project based at the African Studies Centre, will feature in a number of BBC broadcasts over the next few days, including interviews with the project Research Officer Dr Marco Bassi. The radio and television features have been made by BBC journalist Peter Greste. The focus of his attention is the Gibe III hydroelectricity dam being built on the Omo, and the likely downstream impacts of this dam for the people living along the Lower Omo. The AHRC-funded project, led by Professor David Anderson, and involving a multi-disciplinary team of Dr David Turton, Dr Marco Bassi and Dr Graciela Gil-Romera, has just completed a second field season in South Omo.

Programme Director to give lecture at the Getty research Institute in USA
Professor Daniels, Programme Director will be giving a lecture at the Art and Environment conference at the Getty Research Institute. titled Landscape Stories in February 2009.
BBC1 documentary broadcast on 19th January
A short film has been shown on BBC1 on the 'One Show' on Monday 19 January. The film called ‘Back from the Brink' focuses on the return on the Great Bustard bird to Salisbury Plain and was produced by the Militarised Landscapes project. To see the episode please follow this link to the BBCi Player
Collaborative Postgraduate Student wins poetry competition
Polly Atkin, student on the collaborative studentship project called "A place re-imagined: the spatial, literary and cultural making of Dove Cottage, Grasmere" has won the Troubadour Coffee House poetry prize with a poem directly inspired by her Landscape and Environment research project.
