Aims and Objectives

The PhD project will critically examine the legacy of the British new town movement, which was based on an essentially anti-urban, low density, land hungry model.

Progress and Highlights

Year 1

• Established strong links with all the relevant bodies, seeking advice from other academics in the field (eg at LSE and the Bartlett).

• Set up and populated the student's own website on the project, which others have contributed to.

• 70% of the literature survey has been covered.

• Working towards a competition brief and exhibition with the Architecture Foundation.
