Research
Programme research
The central task of the Landscape and Environment Programme was to commission outstanding research. The majority of the Programme's £5.5 million budget has funded successful research bids made by UK academics, with many involving partnerships with external institutions. The Programme invited applications for four types of funding, larger, smaller, networks & workshops, studentships.
A total of 12 larger grants, 9 smaller grants, 11 networks and workshops and 5 studentships were awarded.
The research covers a wide range of topics and time periods, and looks at landscape and the environment in the UK and beyond. The majority of the research projects were completed by the formal end of the Programme in December 2010.
Researching environmental change
Following a workshop entitled "Researching Environmental Change: Workshop exploring the contribution of arts and humanities research" which Landscape and Environment co-hosted with the AHRC's Science and Heritage Programme, a call was made by AHRC for Researching Environmental Change (REC) network awards. The thirteen projects funded through the call aimed to establish distinctive, innovative and engaging arts and humanities research perspectives on environmental change through the formation of high quality and internationally significant research networks. Network's ran from June 2010 to July 2011 with activities contributing to the cross-Council Living with Environmental Change (LWEC) programme.
